Welcome
A welcome from Richard Carr, Chief Executive and Neville Patten, Leader:

Transformation is easier said than done, but that’s our aim. We’re in pursuit of excellence, embarking on a journey that will see us focus more on our customers, their priorities, their needs and our ambitions for the City.
An Excellent Council is one that puts the needs of the customer – and not the organisation – first. Some parts of the Council are doing this already. The challenge now is to transform the whole organisation, to put the customer first in everything we do and to join up services where this benefits the public we are here to serve. To achieve this, we have developed a new model that is designed to strengthen our ability to respond as fully as possible to requests for service, help and advice from the public, at the first point of contact. At the same time, we are pulling together our internal support functions, which are currently scattered and, in some instances, duplicated across the Council. The prevailing culture for both of these elements of our ‘Model for Excellence’ needs to be that they are driven by the needs of the customer, be that a member of the public or other colleagues within the Council. And part of putting the customer first is also to ensure we deliver value for money for every pound we spend.
Make no mistake. This is about much more than just structural change; this is about a total change in mindset and culture. Only by putting the customer first in all that we think and do, will we achieve excellence. If you share our values and our ambition, we want to hear from you.
